In February 2015, the NSW Government announced $307 million in funding for the redevelopment of St George Hospital.

Construction of St George Hospital's new eight level Acute Services Building has now commenced. The NSW Government has accelerate construction to complete the building up to six months earlier.

Fast-tracking construction will save about $30 million without any reduction in the size of the project or the clinical services delivered.

The new eight storey Acute Services Building, being built above the new Emergency Department on Gray Street, will include:
  • A new intensive care department
  • Eight new operating theatres
  • 128 new inpatient beds
  • Two cardiac catheter laboratories
  • A new sterilising department
  • A new roof top helipad.
